Salary and capability framework
Staff who have opted in to the DDaT Capability Framework have the chance to self-assess their skills and development, relating to pay on an annual basis. The self-assessment is moderated by line managers and Heads of Profession and if your proficiency level has increased, then so will your pay.
Candidates moving from another government department are subject to pay principles and may be able to retain their current salary. There may be a possibility of a further extension, or a conversion to a permanent role, of any role advertised as a fixed term appointment, if these options are available at the time.
Reasonable adjustments
The Civil Service embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity. There is a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.
If a person with disabilities is put at a substantial disadvantage compared to a non-disabled person, DBT have a duty to make reasonable changes to their processes. If you need a change to be made so that you can make your application, you should contact the DDaT Recruitment Team before the closing date to discuss your needs, and complete the “Assistance required” section in the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) section during the application stage to tell DBT what changes or help you might need further on in the recruitment process. For instance, you may need wheelchair access at interview, or if you’re deaf, a Language Service Professional.
Read their blog about improving accessibility.
Salary and working arrangements
Salary is determined by performance at interview, within the range advertised. Each technical skill is scored between 0-3, representing working towards, at or above the job level requirements. You are awarded a proficiency level accordingly, and you will be given opportunities at least once a year to re assess your capability and progress through the pay scale within your grade.
Candidates moving from another government department have the option to retain their current salary. There may be a possibility of a further extension, or a conversion to a permanent role, of any role advertised as a fixed term appointment, if these options are available at the time.
Working for the Civil Service
The DBT recruitment process is underpinned by the principle of appointment based on fair and open competition and by merit, as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners’ Recruitment Principles.
All civil servants must adhere to the Civil Service Code which outlines their core values and the standards of behaviour expected of all civil servants. If you feel your application has not been treated in accordance with these principles and you wish to make a complaint, you should in the first instance contact DBT by email at ddat.recruitment@trade.gov.uk.
If you are not satisfied with the response you receive, you can contact the Civil Service Commission, which regulates all Civil Service recruitment. Further information on bringing a complaint can be found on the Civil Service Commission website. Once this job has been closed, the job advert will no longer be available. You may want to save a copy for your records. If invited to an interview you will be sent a copy of the original advert.
